Asha Kline, bassoon
Asha Kline, age 14, is currently an 8th grade student at Burleigh Manor Middle School in Ellicott City, Maryland. She began studying music at age nine, and started playing the bassoon at ten at the suggestion of her elementary school band director, Timothy Beall. She has studied privately with Monica Schwartz and more recently with Fei Xie of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Asha performs in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra Concert Orchestra, and the Burleigh Manor Middle School Wind Ensemble. Additionally, she played in the 2016 Maryland Junior All-State Band and was chosen as principal bassoonist for the Howard County Middle School GT Band in 2016 and 2017 and principal bassoonist in the 2017 Maryland Junior All-State Band. Asha has been selected to play with the 2017 National Youth Orchestra 2 and will be playing with them at Carnegie Hall in July. When not practicing or performing, Asha enjoys making reeds, playing tennis, and attending classical music concerts. This will be her first performance as a soloist with an orchestra.
