A Time and Place
Saturday, December 12, 2009 - 8:00 p.m.
From the craggy rocks of the Scottish islands in Mendelssohn’s overture to Respighi’s triumphant trumpets of ancient Rome, join us as we explore four exotic musical landscapes. Commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bloch's death with local virtuoso Ronald Mutchnik in an exploration of Chassidic life, and then hear the premiere of Albert Hurwit’s winning work in the orchestra’s fourth American Composer Competition, inspired by his family’s migration during the Jewish Diaspora and the Holocaust. Don’t miss our pre-concert lecture with the composer in attendance!
Featuring the winner of the American Composer Competition, Albert Hurwit.
Young People's Concert

Symphonic Pops
Saturday, February 27, 2010 - 7:30 p.m.
What do you get when you bring together Broadway shows like Les Miserables and Gypsy, the songs of Simon & Garfunkel, Celtic classics including music from Lord of the Dance, and combine it with great film scores? It’s an evening the whole family will not forget! Featuring Theresa Bickham, soprano, Neil Ewachiw, baritone, and members of the Teelin Irish Dance Company.
Short Stories
Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 7:30 p.m.
Definitely one for the whole family! Symphonies may be long like novels, but great music often comes in smaller packages. Each of these Argentinian, Czech, French, and American stories has a flavor all its own. Maryland composer Jonathan Leshnoff is gaining international renown, and his Rush will sweep you off your feet! Plus, performances by the young maestros who win our Young Artist Competition are a highlight to the season.
This concert sponsored in part by a generous contribution from PNC.
