The Columbia Orchestra

Tracey Grasty, Second Violin

Tracey Grasty

I am originally from Detroit, Michigan. My parents are retired music teachers. My brother, sister and I all learned to play musical instruments as children. I started playing the violin in the third grade and played until I went to college. I received a BS in Microbiology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus and years later, a BS in Nursing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus. After an almost 20 year hiatus, I decided to reacquaint myself with my violin. I took lessons for a year, then auditioned and joined the Columbia Orchestra. It has been one of the best decisions ever. I enjoy playing with the Columbia orchestra so very much. I love the variety of music we play, my fellow musicians are awesome, and Jason is the best!

I worked at Johns Hopkins hospital, in Baltimore, MD, in the Cardiac Surgical ICU (CSICU) until 2 years ago, when I decided to spend quality time with my sister, brother and their families, in California, and work as a travel nurse. I usually take 3 month contracts, in various hospitals in CSICU and ICUs in the Los Angeles and Bay areas. Whenever I am home, I look forward to playing with the orchestra.

Since joining Columbia Orchestra, I have also played with Prince Georges Philharmonic Orchestra, Summer Strings and Pasadena Community Orchestra in Pasadena, California.
