The Columbia Orchestra

Ken Walton, Percussion

Ken Walton

I started my musical studies with piano lessons when I was 9 years old, and switched to drums when I was in the 9th grade. I joined the school band, which proved to be a choice that led to my professional career! After graduating from the University of Maryland with a BS in Music Education, I taught instrumental music for 31 years, and am now retired. Although my first job was teaching at a junior high school in Anne Arundel County, most of my career was spent directing band and orchestra programs at the high school level in Baltimore County.

In addition to teaching, I have done a lot of playing over the years. As someone who enjoys a wide range of musical styles, I have played in everything from rock bands to big bands, wedding combos, church praise bands, musical theatre and more!

When not performing or going to concerts, I enjoy running, biking and hiking. I am also a fan of both college and professional sports.
