Yaeji Shin, flute
Yaeji Shin is a sophomore at Atholton High School, where she is a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and has participated in the Howard County High School GT Orchestra for 2 years. She is also a member of the Korean Presbyterian Church Hosanna Orchestra. Yaeji was first introduced to music when she began piano at age six. In fifth grade, she started to play flute and decided that it was something she wanted to pursue. She has studied flute privately with Elaine Newhall since seventh grade and is an accomplished pianist, accompanying students for Howard County Solo and Ensemble.
Yaeji won first place in the 2010 Maryland Division of Music Teachers National Association wind solo competition, first place in the 2011 Greater Columbia Music Teachers Chamber Music Competition, and has also participated in the Howard County Middle School GT Band and the Maryland All State Junior Band. She has attended the Oberlin Summer Flute Institute and has just been accepted to attend the Interlochen Arts Camp this summer.
Yaeji loves reading, drawing, designing clothes, and making jewelry. She even had a wild dream of becoming a fashion designer but now, with her many interests and talents, she is not sure where the future may take her.
